Blame Canada!

While our title is a funny play on the South Park movie, we at BHI dislike these stories. They make our profession look bad and it’s another reminder for patients to check their doctor’s qualifications before undergoing anything as serious as surgery. In Canada, another fatal case has raised concern over cosmetic surgery procedures being performed by non-licensed plastic surgeons. According to reports, a Toronto real estate agent and mother had liposuction at the Toronto Cosmetic Clinic and died. She underwent the operation in a clinic that was run by a family physician, not a plastic surgeon.

Apparently in Canada, Canadian general practitioners may perform aesthetic surgery under less stringent rules than their certified plastic surgeon counterparts. We know that sometimes it is easier to go to the doctor with the discounted rates but surgery is no laughing matter and board certification counts! At BHI, we go through stringent Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care certification to ensure that our facility is safe for our patients.
